RAP: Sonnet Makes Grown Man Cry

L.L. here, with Random Acts of Poetry. This past week, I read some news about a celebrated poet. It struck me, the words that said so-and-so “has just been published” in such-and-such Amazing Literary Place. I thought that was very nice for the poet.

But then this idea sneaked in, a wondering… what if we talked about poets and poetry differently… what if we made room for those who haven’t been published in such-and-such Amazing Literary Places, based on the actual impact of their poems?

The news might read: joe-ordinary-poet’s morning haiku brought a woman to her knees; his free verse made a child laugh and try her own hand at poetry; his sonnet made a grown man cry.

For my part, Eric’s Image of Man, Image of God brought this ordinary lady to a place of quiet wonder and holy longing. And I hope that is not only nice for Eric but for you too, at this unassuming Friday poetry celebration…

Reading this poem is like walking in a cathedral. How cool is that?

It is oddly comforting that grace can look like pale, gray plaster. Good words, Eric.

And, Glynn, I love your comment. That is exactly the message we’re about here at HighCallingBlogs.com (and TheHighCalling.org)–help people recognize that the whole world is a cathedral and all of our work there should be holy.

Eric… glad you are happy! And glad, too, that you started putting your poetry out there.

nAncY… an impromptu poem, like the child jumping…

Glynn… pretty cool. :)

Marcus… I like your observation about grace. It has strange faces at times, unexpected colors. Yes.
