FAITH & LIFE: Stepping into His-Story
Dec 1st, 2007 by azdean
The Bible is God’s word to us, but it is also a story of those throughout history that God has used. These people in essence stepped into His-story, the story God has been writing for all these millennium. How would you like to step into God’s story as well?
Well the amazing thing is we can. God is constantly announcing “casting calls” looking for who He can use. Some parts are huge, others are smaller. But, we can never say for sure how big a given role will be because none of us have read the entire story that God has and is writing. And if you haven’t noticed, God’s storyline is chock full of mystery. You may simply be a grandmother teaching a Sunday school class to youngsters, but a Billy Graham could be one of your pupils.
Now some may dismiss the idea that they could ever play a significant role in His-story, but don’t be hasty. Take a moment to ponder what role God has been calling you to and see if Wisdom will bring you clarity. Wisdom can shine a light on what is really possible. It can discern why we have been missing things, and it can lead the way for us to get back onto the correct path.
In short, wisdom can open the door to stepping into His-story.
The funny thing is that it takes wisdom to see wisdom. And yet it is our hearts that take notice first. Our minds so easily miss what is right in front of us. Except for the pounding in our hearts, we would walk on in oblivion.
Faith is what stops us in our tracks and opens our eyes to see what our hearts are seeing. It is what dissolves the veil that blinds us, enslaving us as mere extras on this huge set and instead allows us to plunge headlong into the Story.
The Storyline that God has been writing is like a river running through history. People like Esther, Joseph, and Moses have all waded in when their time came, but like a river that widens into a delta as it reaches its end, so too is the Storyline widening as we approach the end of the age. There are more tributaries than ever before and more main characters that are finding their place in the ever widening Story.
Each person that chooses to be part of His-Story takes on real meaning for their lives because they become part of the real Story that is being played out in front of them for an audience not only of heaven and hell, but for all the people that have ever lived and for God Himself. Each person chooses by faith and humility just how central their role will be.
Any person can play a role no matter how removed they are from the central Storyline because the Storyteller is always looking for ways to add new elements in to make His story so much richer and more intriguing. Central Casting is always searching the Earth for who will play critical roles. Providence prepares the way, shaping our lives in subtle ways, but then He waits for us to voluntarily step forward onto the stage of eternity and into this incredible Story in the making.
Amazing.
We hear the call, deep in our souls, and yet too many of us hesitate, for surely someone else was meant to play this part, surely we are too small to play such an important part. And yet the call persists and He guides by His providence, shaping the moment of our entrance. He has written a Story that anticipates our weaknesses, that sees our failures, that uses all of His creation to prepare our destiny.
Amazing.
Everyone longs for meaning in their lives. So many desperately want to understand what is going on. And yet all along He has planned to draw us in, not just to be bit-players, but to be actors that literally change the flow of history and make the ending of the Story possible.
Amazing indeed.
God has NOT reserved His special roles only for a select few. He is calling EVERYONE to become one of the central characters in His Story. It is only up to us how large a role we want to play.
Think about it. What does your heart say? What does Wisdom say?
