Real Clear Truth

There is something amazing about how the very act of believing allows our minds to clear and helps us to see things that previously we were blinded to. In fact, there seems to be an inverse relationship here. The more faith one has, the more God reveals Himself to us. Jesus spoke in parables to the masses, but explained them in detail to His disciples. To John the beloved, Jesus went even further opening up the Revelations, which to us remains largely obscured.

To some, God speak in dreams. To others like Moses, He speaks face to face.

What’s the deal? Why does God reveal Himself more clearly to those who believe and to those who don’t, their minds are increasingly clouded?

Well, I like to picture God as a King living here on earth in a magnificent castle. We, the people, stand outside as the King comes out on a high balcony to make an announcement. But how do we receive Him? Are we skeptical of what He has to tell us? Do we suspect that He really isn’t all that fair and that He isn’t truly impartial in His judgments? Are we suspicious that He really isn’t as “good” as everyone says He is?

Or, are we happy to see our King and do we trust Him? Do we presume He is a good King and has only the best in mind for us and all of His people? Do we desire to be faithful to Him and want to honor Him?

Those two attitudes make a huge difference in how we receive what He tells us. The one who doesn’t think the King is fair and can’t really trust Him will have a mind clouded with many doubts and suspicions. The one who loves the King and is deeply joyful to have such a good King, will naturally see the best in whatever the King says and will trust Him in the areas we don’t as yet fully understand.

The thing is, the more I desire in my heart to trust the King, the more I believe that He is a good and loving King, then the more I honestly feel His pleasure and His joy, and I simply love that, as it helps me to trust Him even more.

There is something about His smile. There is something about the love in His eyes for us. He melts our hearts and we feel wonderfully loved.

And yet, it seems to me that the ones that can’t trust Him not only can’t see His eyes of love, they *refuse* to see His eyes of love. To accept His love would be to accept His rightness and that is a line they can’t cross because they have said — in their hearts – He cannot be right for His ways are not fair, because what “I” think is right *has* to be the truth, because *who* can tell me what is truly “wrong”.

And all the while we are deceived, for who truly knows what is even in their own hearts, or how sinister our own hearts conceal our own wickedness from us, telling us this is “fair” when in reality it is selfish motives that drive us?

I discovered a while back that the word “faith” is related to the words “fidelity” and “fealty”, and I really like this, for this is what I like to think I have for my King –  that I not only believe in Him and have faith in Him, but that I have fidelity towards my King, that I say what He says is right, and that I say I will support my King through thick and thin and I will honor Him always.

Anyone who has loved me as much as He has deserves far more fealty than I can ever possibly give, and I consider it a true honor that I have a life that I can use to give Him all the honor I can manage.
