Hold Onto Your Seats, This Could Get Bumpy

Ladies and Gentlemen, the captain has turned on the fasten seat belts sign. Please buckle up and hold onto your seats. This could get a little bumpy.

Airplane Window - Smaller We’re going to start doing some major overhauling to HighCallingBlogs.com over the holiday weekend.

During the first phase of the upgrade we will bring the back end WordPress MU (mulit-user) installation up to the current version - kicking and screaming if we have to. We wanted to bring this to your attention so that you understand what is going on. Keep in mind that these changes will only directly affect those of you blogging on a blog hosted here on the HighCallingBlog.com.

Is This You?

To know if these changes apply to you, go to your blog and look in the address bar at the top of your web browser and see what URL is showing there. If you see something along the lines of
http://www.highcallingblogs.com/YourBlogName /
then you may be affected. Please keep reading.

If the URL of your blog doesn’t have www.highcallingblogs.com in it then you can stop reading because these changes won’t affect your blog at all. Take a break. Go to the beach. Maybe read some entertaining in flight announcements . Enjoy your holiday weekend!

For the Rest of You…

For those of you that have blogs hosted here at HighCallingBlogs.com, please bear with us. It is possible you may notice some quirky things going on during the upgrade. Some of these things may include

  • Strange error messages appearing on your blog
  • Your blog may log you out and ask you to log back in again
  • Your chosen theme may rest to the default theme
  • There may be (we hope short) periods when you cannot access your blog

A Perfect Landing

Come Monday you will find your blog will have a shiny new Dashboard as we bring the system up to date with the most recent version. This means that the HighCallingBlogs.com WordPress MU installation will have the same type of user Dashboard as the current single user version 2.5.1.

You can check out this overview of the new dashboard from the official WordPress blog itself, if you like, to get a heads up on what differences to expect. You also might want to read through Matt Mullenweg’s post describing some of the major dashboard changes .

Matt is the guy who originally developed WordPress and is the person who decided to make it open source and freely available to all of us to use. He knows what he’s talking about.

In the remote possibility of a loss of cabin pressure…

If you run into some major problems with your blog come Monday, please don’t hesitate to contact me and I’ll look into it right away.
