Defeating Isolation

October 9, 2008

library_4766 How would you respond if your pastor told you that lots of people in your church disliked you and found you selfish?

Matt Dickerson shares his experience dealing with that exact situation this week over at theHighCalling.org. Since I grew up as an only child and have a tendency to be a bit of a loner myself I can relate to some of Matt’s struggles.

Matt points out that our enemy wants to isolate and destroy us. For me the money quote in his article is

The biggest lies often come wrapped in small truths.

What’s the Goal?

October 8, 2008

library_04777 Marlo Schalesky serves up a great article for us over at theHighCalling.org this week.

Watching a highly skilled team in action working together to achieve a common goal is a beautiful thing to watch. We see this in sports all the time. We all love watching a championship team win the prize.

Turns out it can be a wonderful thing to see in business as well. There’s a big difference between a team that pulls together to accomplish its business objectives and a group of individuals that each work for their own separate goals.

Marlo saw that in action and shares the experience with us. Go read the whole thing for yourself and find out What’s the Goal?

The Idol of Efficiency

October 2, 2008

library_04729 Matt Dickerson ponders about life in the high tech world. Is the efficiency that we hold up as our highest ideal the greatest food for our souls?

Is it even healthy to be constantly striving for ever increasing efficiency? Or is there a better way?

Matt points out one big danger to believers caught in this quest for efficiency.

We have made efficiency and competitiveness our highest goal: the primary measure by which we judge our actions and policies in the workplace, as well as in many of our interpersonal relationships. There is often a human cost to our pursuit of efficiency and competitiveness.
