Search the Entire HighCallingBlogs Network

One of the big frustrations y’all have expressed to us has been the inability to search across the HighCallingBlogs Network. I get that.
It is aggravating to have read a really great blog post, or worse yet to have left a comment on a post, and not be able to remember where that post was when you want to get back to it.
We struggle with the same thing on the network, believe me.
Well this past weekend I installed a Google Custom Search here at HighCallingBlogs.com to fix that problem for all of us.
Network-wide Searching
Now, when you search for a term in the search box in the header of HighCallingBlogs.com you will search across every blog in the network.
For example, If you search “Forgiving” in our custom search box you will find a mix of content from both network blogs and from content hosted on HighCallingBlogs.com. We’ve also given the option to refine your search by blog category.
There are a couple ways you can do this.
First, let’s you think the post you were looking for might have been in the pastor’s category, but you’re not quite sure. In that case you will want to do a normal search for “Forgiving” just like above. Then you’ll want to refine your search by clicking the “Pastors” link at the top of the search results.
That way the search engine will emphasize the Pastors label but will also include relevant content from other categories as well.
When You KNOW the Category
The second case is when you are sure of the category and you only want to search that category.
Then you use the label link under each search result by clicking on the one you want. That should eliminate all the results in the other labels.
Or you can simple type the label directly in the search box itself to save a step. For example the search “label:pastors forgiving” will search only the network blogs in the “Pastors” category for the term “forgiving”.
Some Notes
- If you find anything wonky about the search, please let me know. You can either leave a comment here or email me.
- Also, if your blog seems to have been left out of the search please let me know. I had to enter all of our 200+ blogs by hand this weekend (after getting frustrated my own self by several of the different “automated” ways Google said it could be done - Grrrr!) so it is possible I’ve left some out by mistake.
- Lastly, and this is especially important, if you blog is hosted here in HighCallingBlogs.com (i.e. it says “http://highcallingblogs.com/” in the address of your blog) and your blog does not come up under the label that it should, please, please let me know.
It is our goal to have every blog listed in it’s proper category but we do have a couple hundred blogs to keep track of with limited resources. So help us help you and we’ll get your blog listed where it belongs.
Enjoy!
