It's funny, Steve. Sometimes God himself feels like a relic out of the past. Religion starts to feel like a dead place where I'm just cataloging virtues and sins or something like that.

Then I catch God's fingerprint somewhere, and it all comes to life again.

I think many book lovers like to have the actual book on display. A collection of books on a shelf reveals something about the person collecting them.

A Kindle may contain the same titles but nobody but the reader gets to see the collection.

You know, a basic rule of communication is this: If what you are saying is meant to hurt, then it isn't good communication. Admittedly we could imagine some extreme situation where a crazy and abusive employee needs to be taken down a notch or two. But that's rare. Generally, clean communication gets ideas across and maintains the dignity of all involved.

God bless those on the front lines in this. Out in the workplace.

Ah, I would respond to your comment, but I may get a trophy taken away.

Yes, this whole area seems to be a slipper slope. I pray for humility and do my best.

So that means, since we all think you rock, it's okay for you to think of yourself as Rocking Mr. Gibson?

This whole humility thing gets me twisted in knots. I wish somebody would write "The Problem with Pride and Humility."

I used to get a little jaded about Christian music when I worked for a Christian music publisher. Then one day I was in church and I heard a teenager play a guitar and sing while his father and sister accompanied him. The music was beautiful and really moved me. I sat there and thought, I'll bet this is what happened to the first person who put Christian music on a record. She or he was sitting in a church service, heard something that moved them, and wanted to share it with the world. Two things that make that difficult is that it can be hard to capture the Spirit of a moment like that in a recording studio. Also, if you create a company to publish the record, the company eventually needs to be fed with money so more recordings that don't necessarily hold that same Spirit end up being published. But it is fun to remember that it can start with a really beautiful moment when the Holy Spirit really moves. Maybe lives are changed in spite of us.

I'm not sure of the exact number, but it sold a lot. This is a Mike Yaconelli book published by Zondervan. At the time it was published, it probably spoke more to the mid-age/ baby boomer crowd. But, it has a good message for all Christians.

Finding a title for a book, a poem, or an article always feels like I'm naming my next kid. My wife and I talked about names for months--and we didn't have to worry about our kid dying a slow death in remainders if people didn't resonate with the name we chose.

A question about the five titles. Is #3 successful because it sold more copies?

Well, your headline worked to bring me over from Goodword. But I'm still looking for the aliens! :)

Are those really book titles? I must admit that none of them grabbed me. Finding a title was one of the most painful parts of my book process. Partly because the author has to negotiate. I suppose like all writing, finding a title becomes a partnership of sorts.
