I wonder why this phrase has dropped out of common usage? Certainly the practice itself hasn’t.

“Conspicuous Consumption” has decreased in use as a phrase in proportion to its increase as a practice. It used to be considered a bad practice of rich or (would-be rich) folks. It is now a sort of “normal” thing.
So very sad.
