I’ve mentioned before that Tucker the Wonder Dog is aging. (His 12th birthday is next week, which is a pretty advanced age for a big ol’ dog like him.) His main problem is structural: the surgery done several years ago to repair his anterior cruciate ligaments is failing, causing weakness and alignment problems in his back legs.
Yesterday we took a short walk, and when he came back in he was so weak that the part of his back legs between the foot and the “elbow” (whatever that weird backwards joint is called — ah, the hock! Thank you, benevolent Google) was actually flat on the floor. It freaked me right out. He was fine after a rest, but it’s clear that his physical reach exceeds his grasp by some large amount. Poor guy.
