There are days when I think all the goodness has been cored out of the world, when it feels like we are all drowning in our greed and selfishness and a good deed is a feather in a tornado. And then something good happens.
Today I took cardboard to the recyclers, and as I was tossing it in the bin the front office receptionist came dashing across the parking lot. She told me that one of the truck drivers had seen me coming in and noticed that one of my tires was low. So he called her, saying that he “didn’t want me to get stranded,” and she came out to find me and tell me. So my next stop was the tire place, and lo and behold the tire had picked up a nail and needed repair.
Either the truck driver or the receptionist could have been too busy to bother — but they did. That makes me happy.
