Suddenly, it’s hip to be frugal, or should we say, to “live simply.”  Food sections are running articles about cooking cheaply, gardening, and preserving.  Gas guzzlers are out.  Radical suggestions that have been floated include that one should live within one’s means, defer gratification, “make it do or do without.”
