A Different Street

by Satchel Pooch

I live in CA,  and the editorial pages are filled with comments about the same sex marriage court decision and campaigns to change the CA constitution to overturn this.   A striking number make claims,  biblical and personal,  that the notion of certain forms of marriage are God ordained.   Like crusades, jihads, millions of petty cruelties inflicted in the name of religion, it strikes me,  that sometimes,  the simple claim, of knowing Gods will should be considered a major sinful act.  They also appear to ignore the biblical stories of child brides, slave concubines,  arranged marriages and polygamy.

Another large pool of against the decision,  seem to focus on their use of  the word “marriage” , the semantics if you will.  Being a linguistic nit picker from way back, I can see where their anguish comes from,  but to invest so much into the definition of a word with so many connotations also seems sinful. (opps, there I go, sinfully projecting my belief in the way thoughts ought to be)
