I enjoy reading the infrequently-updated Best of Craigslist partly because of the window it offers into the zeitgeist. One of the things that has puzzled me for awhile is the popularity of “etiquette lists,” written by commuters or grocery-store clerks or anyone who has a serious bone to pick with others’ public behavior, and wants to expose their sins and suggest improvements in detail that even Miss Manners would find excruciating.
Well, due to the amount of time I have recently spent in public places (campgrounds, rest stops, motels) I wonder no more. The lack of awareness of others demonstrated by some people really is staggering. I think, however, that I will spare Craig’s List a screed on the topic.
