A Different Street

by Satchel Pooch

I recently, and somewhat reluctantly, removed a left-wing political humor blog from my personal “daily visit” blog list because I got tired of the constant, cheap-shot “John McCain is old” jokes. Seems to me that if I want the political discourse elevated to issues instead of personalities, I have to walk my talk.

By the same token, Suzie at Echidne of the Snakes argues, if feminists defend Hillary Clinton from attacks based on her sex, they should do the same for Cindy McCain (and Michelle Obama). I agree: calling McCain names like “Barbie” or “Stepford wife” is rude, cheap, AND sexist.

One Response to “Insert light-bulb joke here”

  1. I agree. I also found a lot to think about in your last post about the need to move past the divisiveness of Boomer politics. As mid-cohort Boomer, it is hard to admit, but I think there is a lot of truth in Robinson’s post.

Bottom line: Boomers (despite what we think) are not always the be all and end all of everything. We need to seriously get over ourselves and let the the world turn without our “help”. Difficult as that is.

We Boomers are not the Be All and End All we think we are.

    Thanks be to God.
