When I get it, anyway. Every now and then I re-fall in love with British journalists:
“I’ve been able to integrate the symbolism and the architecture unlike anything ever been done before,” says Valentine, a fast-talking, generously coiffed man in his late 40s, whose conviction frequently eclipses his modesty.
Name me an American journalist who could [...]

Apologizing: Ur doin it rite

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

A friend sent along this announcement of the closing of a (presumably rather fancy) restaurant called Rocket in Portland, Oregon.  The owner/chef, Leather Storrs, writes:

Monday, October 27th, 2008

My daughter and a group of friends went to a night-time corn maze event last Friday.  Lots of teenagers, flashlights, giggling, &c.
Anyway, it seems that some older teenage boys were hiding in convenient spots in the maze and jumping out and screaming to scare girls at various points.  My first reaction was anger:  how could [...]

Ghost signs: faded remnants of old signs painted on the sides of buildings. I’m not a fan of James Lileks’ writing, but I quite like these photos. Thanks to Rain at Street Prophets.
