I'm with you, Satch - my first drunk driving incident also involved pedal power, but I was 13 at the time. Thank God (I do!) that there was no other traffic on the road that night, and that home was only 3/4 of a mile away from the party.

Ahhh, but Mr. Rogers was a child at heart whose favorite Crayon color was lemon yellow. That's a good thing!

Not sure it helps but I've always been enthralled with this definition of forgiveness: Forgiveness is the aroma given up by a flower to the boot of the heel that just crushed it.
Not such an easy thing...for anyone.

I've some friends who are far more fundamentalist than I can see myself becoming, and one of them says (though both are in agreement on the point) that all mental illness is spiritual in nature. He does not (thankfully) suggest we stop taking meds, but I believe on a fairly deep level there is truth there.

I cannot, of my own accord or in my own abilities, detect what that point source might be - but I do know that so long as there are people I am able to reach out to (even if I'd never spoken to them before), I need never feel hopeless for long about any situation or circumstance in my life. I've proven the truth of this time and again - which is one of the reasons I keep my cell on 24/7, on the just in case someone else needs to reach out... just an old AA habit that works nicely as a believer's habit :)

Indeed. It's interesting. I always got that impression as a Protestant. I sort of expected it to be the same in the Orthodox Church, but it isn't. What a relief to have permission to stop blaming myself!
